Located on Whitaker Street in Savannah’s historic district, Circa 1875 is an unpretentious Parisian bistro and pub that serves authentic French cuisine in an old-world setting. This eatery has been a staple in the area for over five years and raises the bar for incredible food and even better service. Amongst tall ceilings, gold accents, and vintage 19th-century artwork, guests can enjoy an assortment of traditional French dishes that will make your mouth water – and it’s less than a 10-minute walk from the Presidents’ Quarters Inn! Here’s what you’ll see at Circa 1875 in Savannah.

Enjoy a Meal at Circa 1875

In 2007, Michigan natives Donald Ludwicki and Jeffrey Downey stumbled upon the city of Savannah while in the process of moving from their hometown and fell in love with its old oak trees, Spanish moss, and historic squares. After working in other area restaurants, the duo decided to venture out on their own and combine their passion and experience to create an authentic French bistro that would captivate both locals and visitors alike. Today, Circa 1875 has brought that vision to life.

The Bistro

Perfect for date night, the sit-down French bistro is both elegant and romantic. Guests can start off their meal by choosing a glass or bottle from the extensive wine selection, then pick the perfect dish to go with it. To start, we recommend the Coquilles St. Jacques, or baked scallops in a mornay sauce. The plate comes with three melt-in-your-mouth scallops accompanied by mushrooms, scallions, and gooey gruyere cheese. For the main course, try the classic steak frites dish which features a 10 ounce NY strip steak finished with red wine and herb compound butter, served with a mound of truffle fries. Yum!

Local tip: Call ahead and ask to the sit in the wine cellar for a cozy, intimate setting that’s second to none. You can thank us later!

The Gastro Pub

Named the best Gastro Pub in Savannah, this bar offers melodic tones of classic jazz as well as boutique wines, imported draught beer, and handcrafted martinis and cocktails. While a bit darker and more casual than the formal dining room, this side of the restaurant is the perfect place to bring a group of friends for a night out. The pub also has its own full menu and features delicious hors d’oeuvres like escargot, foie gras, and moules marinière. Both the pub and bistro are open for dinner Monday through Thursday at 5 PM and Friday and Saturday at 6 PM.
